Movie Trailer: It’s pub time in The World’s End

0

We have a new look at The World’s End, which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and is being promoted as the third part in the trilogy which contains Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The aesthetic here seems very similar to Shaun of the Dead and we get the same quirkiness we got from that film within a serious issue. It looks very funny and I loved the first two films so consider me on board here.

The movie is being directed by Edgar Wright who also directed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Check out the trailer and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

The World’s End opens August 23.

Movie News: Actor James Gandolfini dead at age 51

TV/film actor James Gandolfini has died at the age of 51.

Gandolfini’s death was confirmed by his managers Mark Armstrong and Nancy Sanders. He is believed to have died of a heart attack while on vacation in Italy.

“It is with immense sorrow that we report our client James Gandolfini passed away today while on holiday in Rome, Italy,” Armstrong and Sanders state. “Our hearts are shattered and we will miss him deeply. He and his family were part of our family for many years and we are all grieving.”

Gandolfini is been known for his iconic role as Tony Soprano on The Sopranos, a role for which he won three Emmys, one Golden Globe and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

“He was a genius. Anyone who saw him even in the smallest of his performances knows that,” David Chase, creator of the hit HBO series, said in a statement. “He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time. A great deal of that genius resided in those sad eyes. I remember telling him many times, ‘You don’t get it. You’re like Mozart” There would be silence at the other end of the phone. For Deborah and Michael and Lilliana this is crushing. And it’s bad for the rest of the world. He wasn’t easy sometimes. But he was my partner, he was my brother in ways I can’t explain and never will be able to explain.”

Along with The Sopranos, Gandolfini also starred In the Loop, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Where the Wild Things Are and Killing Them Softly. He was most recently seen in Not Fade Away and in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. He also produced – and earned Emmy nods – for producing the documentary Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq for HBO.

Gandolfini is survived by wife Deborah Lin, newborn daughter Liliana and teenage son Michael.

Movie News: Mary Jane Watson will not appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Don’t expect to see Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

According to SuperHeroHype, scenes shot for Shailene Woodley’s Watson will not appear in the sequel and instead will not be introduced until the third installment.

Returning director Marc Webb said in a statement that “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. … Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

The decision to save Watson until the next film is certainly a wise choice considering all of the other new characters that will be introduced including Norman and Harry Osborn (Chris Cooper and Dane DeHaan), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx). There is plenty of time for Watson considering The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 already have release dates.

Along with Webb returning, Andrew Garfield will reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man as will Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 webs its way into theaters on May 2, 2014.

Movie News: A sequel to Dumb and Dumber is on the way

Harry and Lloyd are returning to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to make Dumb and Dumber To, a sequel to 1994’s comedy film featuring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, after Warner Bros. dropped it earlier this year. Red Granite will finance the $35 million film.

Dumb and Dumber is one of the all-time greatest comedies with some of the most popular quotable lines. It will be awesome to see Harry (Daniels) and Lloyd (Carrey) embark on another road trip together. The film will once again be PG-13 and will once again be directed by the Farrelly Brothers.

Dumb and Dumber To will need to go into production soon as scheduling could be an issue considering Daniels is busy with the HBO series Newsroom and Carrey is busy like usual. So this could mean that we will get the film sooner rather than later and that is great news.

Movie Trailer: Our first look at Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

0

We finally have our first trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and it’s pretty good. The premise is centered around the Channel 4 News Team dealing with the start up of the 24-hour news network. We get all of our fun cast here including some of the newbies, including Dylan Baker, Meagan Good, James Marsden and Kristen Wiig. Good looks like she could be replacing Veronica Corningstone as Ron’s new girlfriend. Time will tell but it looks pretty good.

The trailer suggests that the movie will be similar to the first one with some funny and punchy lines from Ron Bergundy and the same sexual aggressive behavior. Paul Rudd looks like he’s having the time of his life and the new cast members seem to blend in really well.

That being said, it’s just a teaser and there will be much more to this than what we get here. But will people still care after all these years? The first one is hysterical and one of my favorite comedies but it’s been awhile since we’ve had this team and I could see some of the jokes being forced and dulled out. I love Will Ferrell though and he makes me laugh even when his movies are dumbed down. I’m still excited but not sure if this will beat out This is the End as best comedy of the year.

Either way check out the trailer and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues comes to theaters December 20.

Movie News: Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For delayed to 2014

As you can see in the tweet above, Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For is being delayed until next summer. We haven’t seen very much marketing for this film and with it’s original release date for this year in just 4 months, so we were starting to wonder what was going on. Well, this makes much more sense now.

According to AICN, the film is being delayed for effects work and not a because the quality of the film is lesser. Robert Rodriguez, who’s one of the directors, is also directing Machete Kills which comes out in September which also may be coming into play a little bit too.

I loved the first Sin City film, so I’m excited for this project. Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For is set to now come out August 22, 2014.

Movie Trailer: The Lego Movie brings backs childhood memories

Legos were my childhood. I could spent countless hours building cities, castles, vehicles; you name it, I probably built it.

And that nostalgia is why I’m pretty excited for The Lego Movie, a film in which we got our first glimpse of today with this fantastic trailer (we also got a nifty poster). This trailer brought back so many memories and I love that they’re using all the different kinds of Lego sets (DC superheroes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to name a few) instead of just focusing on one or two specific models.

With the directing duo and the impressive voice cast here, my hopes are high for The Lego Movie.

The Lego Movie hits theaters on February 7, 2014.

Movie News: The Lego Movie poster gets constructed

They will make films about anything nowadays.

Today we got our first glimpse at The Lego Movie with this nifty poster. The poster definitely does a good job of conveying the best part about Legos: building stuff.

The film is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the hilarious 21 Jump Street. The impressive voice cast includes Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Nick Offerman, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pratt and Will Arnett.

Movie News: Sony announces release dates for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4

Sony announced yesterday that they will be releasing 2 new Spider-Man films over the next five years. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will be released on June 10, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will be released on May 4, 2018. Here is the official press release from Sony:

“CULVER CITY, Calif., June 17, 2013 – With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year.”

Why Sony felt like we need to care about these films already is beyond me but I guess they are expecting us too given that they are already going for four films. That being said, I did enjoy the first film in the Spider-Man reboot but I felt like it was split down the middle in terms of reaction, much like this year’s Man of Steel. I’m not sure if having four films on the docket already is a good idea but if the money keeps rolling in, why not?

What are your thoughts on this? Good idea? Let us know in the comments below!

Movie Trailer: We get our first look at Disney’s Frozen

0

Disney has released the first trailer for its’ upcoming film, Frozen and it’s not quite what I expected. When you listen to the description for the movie, it sounds like there’s a lot more to it then what we get there.

“In Frozen, fearless optimist Anna (voice of ‘Kristen Bell’ ) teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of ‘Jonathan Groff’ ) and his loyal reindeer Sven in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.”

That being said, it’s Disney and they tend to make some pretty great stuff, including last year’s awesome Wreck It-Ralph, which was screwed for Best Animated Film at this years Oscars. While this trailer doesn’t suggest the bigger nature of the film, I do think it will be good when it’s all said and done (hopefully).

Frozen comes to theaters November 27th this year.

Movie News: Loki will not be returning for The Avengers sequel

Loki did not die at the end of The Avengers but that does not mean he is coming back for the sequel.

Director Joss Whedon recently gave an interview on a weekly podcast for Empire and said that Thor’s brother who played the villain in The Avengers will not be making an appearance in 2015’s The Avengers 2.

Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for [a quim moment]. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.

This is interesting news and makes me curious to see what happens to Loki in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. I really enjoyed the character (played terrifically by Tom Hiddleston) in Thor and then in The Avengers. The crossover between the two films made perfect sense as you could see Loki turning in Thor because of his jealousy and anger towards his brother and that transitioned into him becoming the main baddie and attempting to get what he always wanted in The Avengers.

Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8, while The Avengers 2 opens on May 1, 2015.

Movie Trailer: The Wolf of Wall Street reunites Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio

0

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio seem to be a match made in heaven. Gangs of New York. The Aviator. The Departed. Shutter Island. And now The Wolf of Wall Street.

Today we got the first trailer for the duo’s latest film about a stockbroker who refuses to cooperate in a big fraud case. It looks insanely wild with chimps dressed in suits and little people being flung through the air. It looks to have great performances from DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill. And it looks to be very stylish.

The Wolf of Wall Street is definitely one to keep an eye out for this year.

The Wolf of Wall Street hits theaters on November 15.

Box Office Report: Man of Steel soars to the top

0

Superman is back.

Man of Steel dominated the box office this weekend, bringing in over $125 million to make it June’s biggest opening of all-time and the second-best opening of the year behind Iron Man 3. This number beats the studio’s estimate of $80 million and rival studios who predicted a $110 million opening.

Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan’s reboot made $113 million through the traditional Friday-to-Sunday period and another $12 million during Wal-Mart’s special screenings on Thursday. Depending on how you look at it, that makes Man of Steel somewhere between No. 11 and 14 for all-time openings.

The $125 million opening is by far better than 2006’s Superman Returns, which made $84 million through its first five days and barely cracked the $200 million mark domestically. Man of Steel is far better than that film, with a nice telling of the origin story aided by solid performances and some beautiful visuals and wild action sequences.

The critically-acclaimed This is the End came in second with $20 million and has now made $32.8 million since opening on Wednesday. The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-directed comedy/thriller is extremely hilarious with a unique premise featuring actors/comedians such as Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jonah Hill playing exaggerated versions of themselves.

Now You See Me pulled in another $10 million to finish third and push its total take to $80 million since it debuted over two weeks ago, while Fast & Furious 6 grabbed $9.4 million to fall to fourth and increase its total haul to $219.5 million. The Purge, after opening huge last weekend, fell to fifth with $8.2 million.

The big question now is if Man of Steel can reclaim the top spot again next weekend, as both Brad Pitt’s World War Z and Pixar’s Monsters University are opening.

Movie News: New poster for Escape Plan features locked-up Sly and Arnie

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are starring in a film together.

We recently got this poster for their new film called Escape Plan (previously titled The Tomb). It is the first time the pair have starred in a film together, having only previously been on screen together briefly in The Expendables film.

Escape Plan is about a structural-security officer who is incarcerated in a prison he designed and has to escape to find the person who framed him. The film also features Jim Caviezel, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, 50 Cent and Vincent D’Onofrio and is directed by 1408 helmer Mikael Hafstrom.

Escape Plan sounds pretty interesting, although I prefer its previous title. It will be nice to see Stallone and Schwarzenegger star in a film together and the premise sounds pretty cool, if unoriginal (I’m a sucker for prison breakout films).

Escape Plan opens on October 18.
