This week on the InSession Film Podcast: Extra Film segment, DJ Valentine from Simplistic Reviews joins us this week as we recap The Hunger Games franchise as we lead into Mockingjay Part 1 this weekend. DJ is always a fantastic guest and once again brings it for this discussion. Brendan should be back next week as he will finally be moved to Nashville, settled and ready to go. Also, a shoutout to vote on this week’s poll, where we ask about your favorite dramatic performance by a comedian. Vote now!

At any rate, have fun listening to this week’s Extra Film segment and let us know what you think in the comment section below. Hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!

Movie Poll: The best dramatic performance by a comedian?

0

For our movie poll this week, we’re looking to our discussion of Foxcatcher here in a couple of weeks. The film, of course, stars the very funny Steve Carell in what looks to be an incredible dramatic performance that’s Oscar worthy. And with that as our inspiration this week, we’re asking for what you think is the best dramatic performance by a comedian. There’s been a lot of solid performances over the years and some great one’s to choose from.

Podcast: Top 3 Interrogation Scenes

This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we reviewed Rosewater, the story of a man wrongfully imprisoned and interrogated for being a spy. While some scenes are hard to watch, I’ll say, this was a really fun Top 3 and there’s been plenty of interrogation scenes throughout the years to choose from. Some are funny, some are disturbing and some are just outright entertaining. Either way you look at it, we found some pretty great interrogation scenes that fit this Top 3 well.

That being said, what interrogation scenes would make your list? Here are the one’s that made ours (Keep in mind we all have different criteria for our lists as well):

JD

1) The Dark Knight – Joker & Batman
2) The Usual Suspects – Verbal Kent Interrogation
3) Pulp Fiction – Jules Winnfield in Apartment

Brendan

1) Marathon Man – Dentist Torture
2) The Secret in Their Eyes – Interrogation Room
3) Inglorious Bastards – Col. Hans Landa Interrogates French Farmer

Neil

1) True Romance – Clifford Worley Interrogated by Vincenzo Coccotti
2) Casino Royale – Rope & Chair
3) Basic Instinct – Sharon Stone Pause Moment

Honorable Mentions (Combined)

Zero Dark Thirty, Mission Impossible III, Reservoir Dogs, Brazil, The Matrix, Se7en, Hard Candy, Drive, L.A. Confidential, The Avengers

Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists and if you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are obviously a lot more movie interrogation scenes that we did not cover or talk about that could certainly make this list. That being said, what would be your Top 3? Leave a comment in the comment section or email us at [email protected].

– This or That (1:09:35)

This week we start a new segment called This or That, which works pretty similarly to Would You Rather if you’ve ever played that game. Keep in mind, these scenarios we discuss are hypothetical and for fun. Here’s what we discussed for this awesome segment:

This: A Civil War story line in the Marvel Cinematic Universe without Spider-Man

That: No Civil War story line but the MCU gets Spider-Man

This: Michael Bay to remake Police Academy with Seth Rogen and Amy Poehler
That: Steven Spielberg to reboot Jaws with Jason Statham as Brody

This: Assume that Toy Story 4 is the best of all the Toy Story movies.
That: Let the original trilogy stands on it’s own

Brendan and JD also give a lot of love to Disney and Marvel in their discussion of Big Hero 6, one of the funnest animated movies of 2014.

This week for our poll, in anticipation for our Whiplash discussion on this week’s Extra Film segment, we’re asking about your favorite music movie (non-musical) since 2000. There are a lot of great choices for a poll like this and while we obviously didn’t touch on all of them, we came up with some fun options I think. We also have a write-in option if you don’t like any of these.

Movie Poll: What’s your favorite Christopher Nolan film?

0

So, obviously, this poll is in anticipation for our discussion on Interstellar this weekend on Episode 90. Christopher Nolan, while not perfect, is pretty highly regarded as one of the best filmmakers today and has created some of the best pieces of art we’ve seen in cinema over the last decade. For me (JD) personally, The Dark Knight Rises is my only disappointment. Other than that, I pretty much love everything Nolan creates. And as for Interstellar, there’s a lot of hyper surrounding it, so we’ll see how it holds up this weekend.

Before we get into any of that though, we want to ask about your favorite Chris Nolan film. Maybe you don’t regard him as high as others do or perhaps you love everything he does. Either way, we’d love to hear your vote and we’ll discuss this on the show this weekend! Thanks for voting!

Podcast: Top 3 Characters with an Obsession

This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we reviewed Nightcrawler, starring the amazing Jake Gyllenhaal, who depicts a character with an interesting obsession. So for our top 3 this week, we looked at characters who struggled with the same things. And for this specific top 3, criteria was an important factor because depending on how you look at it, you could argue that almost every movie out there features characters with obsessive-like tenancies. So we looked at films and characters that had an obsession and was a pivotal role in the film and features some crucial consequences because of the obsessive behavior. So, now that we’ve laid the groundwork, we came up with some really great characters that fit this Top 3 really well.

That being said, what characters with an obsession would make your list? Here are the one’s that made ours (Keep in mind we all have different criteria for our lists as well):

JD

1) Taxi Driver – Travis Bickle
2) Vertigo – Scottie Fergusson
3) Take Shelter – Curtis LaForche

Brendan

1) There Will Be Blood – Daniel Plainview
2) Vertigo – Scottie Fergusson
3) The King of Comedy – Rupert Pupkin

Marcelo

2) Observe and Report – Ronnie Barnhardt
3) Blow Out – Jack Terry

Honorable Mentions (Combined)

Zodiac, The Prestige, American Beauty, Citizen Kane, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Men of Honor, The Godfather II, Shame

Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists and if you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are obviously a lot more movie characters with an obsession that we did not cover or talk about that could certainly make this list. Podcast: Top 3 Monsters/Creatures in Horror

This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we reviewed Horns, featuring Daniel Radcliffe who becomes a monster of sorts. So with that as inspiration, and it being Halloween, decided to look at our favorite monsters or creatures in a horror film. Horror movies have been around since the beginning and movie monsters have come to define the genre in some great ways over the years. Some monsters or creatures are incredibly iconic for some really great reasons and this week for our Top 3, we found quite a few of them. While this genre scares some of us rather easily, we still had a fantastic discussion on the subject.

That being said, what movie monsters or creatures would make your list? Here are the one’s that made ours (Keep in mind we all have different criteria for our lists as well):

JD

1) Frankenstein – Dr. Frankenstein’s monster
2) The Exorcist – Demon that possesses girl
3) Godzilla (’54) – Godzilla monster

2) The Omen – Damien
3) A Nightmare on Elms Street – Freddy Krueger

Honorable Mentions (Combined)
