Happy Ant-Man week everyone! As we lead up to the end of Phase 2 for Marvel in their tiny sized superhero film, we wanted to talk about it’s main star, Paul Rudd. He’s certainly had an interesting career and not many people may have penned him as a hero but here’s to hoping he’s the right man for the job. Strippers, exotic dancers…Hollywood loves them. Whether it’s a male or female, having a stripper as a central character has all sorts of formulaic conventions Hollywood adores. There’s the stripper with the heart of gold, the stripper doing it for the art, the stripper as rebel, the stripper just stripping for the money…you get the idea. And while actor Channing Tatum may be the only former stripper (he stripped briefly when he was 18) to produce a movie based on his own experiences (Magic Mike), there’s no shortage of revealing films about stripping.
In honor of Magic Mike XXL, which was released to theaters July 1, here’s our top ten list of movies featuring a lovable, lusted after stripper.
10) From Dusk Till Dawn
Two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in an establishment populated by vampires, with chaotic results. While not strictly a stripper movie, there’s one specific memorable scene.
9) Closer
The relationships of two couples become complicated and deceitful when the man from one couple meets the woman of the other. Another move not strictly involving strippers; this one featuring an intimate scene from Natalie Portman.
8) Barb Wire
Post-Apocalyptic remake of “Casablanca” set in a strip club. Starring, of course, Pamela Anderson.
7) Flashdance
A Pittsburgh woman with two jobs as a welder and an exotic dancer wants to get into ballet school. We all know the iconic scene.
A middle-aged Louisiana governor falls in love with a young stripper, which jeopardizes his political career and the radical policies which have made him a controversial figure. Based on the real life memoirs of Blaze Starr.
Starring the infamous Jenna Jameson and Robert Englund, a zombie epidemic spreads throughout a strip club in Nebraska.
4) We’re the Millers
A veteran pot dealer creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico. Jennifer Aniston plays the stripper turned fake mom.
3) Showgirls
A young drifter, named Nomi, arrives in Las Vegas to become a dancer and soon sets about clawing and pushing her way to become the top of the Vegas showgirls. While certainly not the best made film, Showgirls is somewhat iconic in its own way.
A stripper and single mother gets dragged into a dangerous situation after a congressman takes a fancy to her. Demi Moore stars in one of her most remembered performances.
This week on the InSession Film Podcast: Extra Film segment, in honor of it’s 30th anniversary, we give an in-depth and fun discussion of Back to the Future, which was one of the funnest conversations we’ve ever had on the show. We also feature a fun interview with director Clay Hassler, who has a new film on the festival circuit this year, Homeless.
Big thanks to Clay once again and stay tuned for more info once the film becomes more accessible to a wide-stream audience. Hopefully you enjoy our Back to the Future discussion as well. It’s a classic for a reason and we take it to some pretty interesting territory.

It’s Magic Mike week for us ya’ll! I know the film came out last week, but we are going to take our crack at Magic Mike XXL this week along with discussing our favorite Steven Soderbergh films. Of course, Soderbergh directed the first Magic Mike and while he didn’t direct XXL, he was the cinematographer for the film. So, we felt like it’d be a fun idea to look through Soderbergh’s fascinating filmography.

Terminator Genisys might be getting awful reviews at the box office, but what the franchise does have, is a slew of what humans are most afraid of: super intelligent robots that turn against humanity, and going on a killing spree. What happens when the technology we created to assist us in life, decides it would rather end our lives?
There’s more than enough movies that explore that scenario. Let’s take a look at our top 10 favorite “Killer Robot” movies that pit technology against humanity. In no particular order:
2001: A Space OdysseyÂ
A Stanley Kubrick masterpiece. Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest. H.A.L doesn’t turn out to be the partner in crime they had hoped he would be.
Westworld
Michael Crichton imagines what it would be like if Disney World turned on us. A robot malfunction creates havoc and terror for unsuspecting vacationers at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park.
The Stepford Wives
Joanna Eberhart has come to the quaint little town of Stepford, Connecticut with her family, but soon discovers there lies a sinister truth in the all too perfect behavior of the female residents. Women so perfect could only be crazy robots.
Alien
The commercial vessel Nostromo receives a distress call from an unexplored planet. After searching for survivors, the crew heads home only to realize that a deadly bioform has joined them. I wouldn’t trust Ash to help you out of the pickle.
Blade Runner
A blade runner must pursue and try to terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator.
Hardware
Just the typical killer robot storyline: the head of a cyborg reactivates and rebuilds itself and goes on a violent rampage in a space marine’s girlfriend’s apartment.
The Matrix: Reloaded
Neo and the rebel leaders estimate that they have 72 hours until 250,000 probes discover Zion and destroy it and its inhabitants. During this, Neo must decide how he can save Trinity from a dark fate in his dreams. A really confusing tale, but full of killer robots, nonetheless.
I, Robot
In 2035 a technophobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity.
Moon
Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet’s power problems. Kevin Spacey plays the perfect crazed robot, even if he is sporting a smiley face emoticon.
Screamers
On a distant mining planet ravaged by a decade of war, scientists have created the perfect weapon: a blade-wielding, self-replicating race of killing devices known as Screamers, designed for one purpose only — to hunt down and destroy all enemy life forms. But man’s greatest weapon has continued to evolve without any human guidance, and now it has devised a new mission: to obliterate all life.

First off Olivia Cooke, I am glad that you finally got the recognition you deserve as an actress because you did a Curry type performance in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl playing Rachel. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tackles the subject in a humorous way while still being able to reach that emotional cord. It’s a different style of movie than last year’s Fault in Our Stars, but it is similar in having a standout young cast and tackling a very serious issue. Me and Earl and The Dying Girl has a catchy title, and it makes up even more catchy titles in the low-budget films it’s two stars make.
Have you been forced to do something you didn’t want to do by you mother? I know I did, and for Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann) he was asked to befriend cancer patient Rachel. Greg and Rachel forced friendship starts as good as a Plenty of Fish conversation. The more time Greg spends with Rachel, the more they develop an impeccable bond. Greg eventually introduces Rachel to his coworker and friend Earl (Ronald Cyler II). Earl and Greg’s films are a sacred bond between them, and when Carl begins showing Rachel the videos, Greg finds his simple life being more complex in a good way.
From the start, you get a feel for how the story goes as the movie is broken up into parts, and the comedic bits come as fast as Lebron James’ next Cleveland departure. Senseibile, humorous, quirky, delightful, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is in the same class as The Spectacular Now and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, and Ronald Cyler II are all fantastic and they needed to be for this type of film to work. Mann’s deadpan style comedy is balanced by Cooke and Cyler’s characters. The supporting cast which includes Connie Britton, Nick Offerman and a very small part for Hugh Jackman.
What surprised me about this film is the script because it makes jokes about cancer pretty much throughout the whole movie. Weird, as it sounds the joking, is not offensive, and credit screenwriter Jesse Andrews (also wrote the novel) for putting a unique spin on building friendships. Andrews’ characters build their friendships through movies.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl if you cannot tell, I highly recommend this film, and it is my new number #1 film of 2015. If you are tired of superheroes, dinosaurs, naked men, talking bears then this is the movie for you.
