When you think of some of the greatest modern filmmakers alive, one of the names at the top of the list is Spike Lee. The New York City based director is known for his deeply personal, passionate films that deal with race, sex, historical figures, politics, and tragedy, sometimes even all within the same film. He’s the most successful African American filmmaker of all time, leading the way for generations of talented male and female black artists to carry on what he has started, which was a true change in Hollywood. Brash yet rootable, there is no question to just how important Spike Lee is to the story of movies, and the Extra Film boys take note of this as they talk about a selection of his films below, with many guests to help them along the way. Spike is one of Ryan’s favorite directors and this series is a bit of a blindspot for Jay, thus making all of their conversations in this series absolutely fascinating.
