Movie News: This new clip from Pacific Rim will blow your mind

Pacific Rim is easily the movie that has had me the most excited all year and I’ve been looking forward to it for quite some time. That scares me a little bit given that I’ve been disappointed by some other major films this year so I’m a little hesitant…nah what am I talking about? I’m extremely excited for this! And a new clip has emerged to make me anticipating this even more.

It may let me down like some other major sci-fi films this year but I can’t help but be thrilled for it. Giant creatures battling giant manned-robots fighting for survival on Earth in an epic-like fashion; consider me on board!

Screenwriter Travis Beacham posted a link on Twitter to this clip saying:

“This clip constitutes like 1% of the best, most sprawling action sequence I have ever seen in my life.”

If this is 1% then I can’t even imagine what the rest of this film will be like. As of right now, film writers and critics have had nothing but awesome things to say about Pacific Rim so that makes me even more excited. I guess we’ll see if that all holds up as more reviews will hit the web but as of now everyone seems to love this film and I hope that it lives up to that hype. For now, enjoy the awesomeness below!

Pacific Rim comes to us in just a few short weeks on July 12.

Movie Poll: Who is the best sidekick in film?

This week in preparation for The Lone Ranger, one that we’re not exactly too excited for, which hits theaters we’re asking which movie sidekick is the best. Tonto has been a pretty popular sidekick in the past and Johnny Depp will certainly add some flair to the character.

Anyway, who do you think is the best sidekick in film? Vote here!

Monthly Preview: Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger and sequels rule July

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim, Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger and sequels to Despicable Me, Grown Ups and Red appear to be the main attractions as the July film schedule is upon us.

While Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger and sequels may take over the month, there are also some other films to be on the lookout for including R.I.P.D., The Conjuring, Only God Forgives and The Wolverine. So here it is: A list of some of the top films that are being released this month.

JULY 5

The Lone Ranger

Director: Gore Verbinski
Stars: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, William Fichtner
Synopsis: Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.
Our Take: We haven’t exactly been sold on the latest from the Pirates of the Caribbean team. There has been nothing in the marketing to get us excited about it, but maybe that will change once we actually see the full film.

Despicable Me 2

Director: Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud
Stars: Steve Carell, Kristen Wigg, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove
Synopsis: Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.
Our Take: Who says animated films are just for kids? Not us. We loved the 2010 film (especially the little yellow Minions) and can’t wait to see what Gru and Co. have been up to since then.

The Way, Way Back

Director: Nat Faxon, Jim Rash
Stars: Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Toni Collette
Synopsis: Over the course of his summer break, a teenager comes into his own thanks in part to the friendship he strikes up with one of the park’s managers.
Our Take: With a nice cast on board and a nice coming-of-age story, this could end up being the indie hit of the summer.

JULY 12

Pacific Rim

Director: Guillermo Del Toro
Stars: Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Toni Collette
Synopsis: When an alien attack threatens the Earth’s existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.
Our Take: Giant robots fighting giant monsters from the mind of Guillermo Del Toro? Yeah, we’re on board. This is probably our most anticipated film of the rest of the summer.

Grown Ups 2

Director: Dennis Dugan
Stars: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade
Synopsis: After moving his family back to his hometown to be with his friends and their kids, Lenny (Adam Sandler), finds out that between old bullies, new bullies, schizo bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, and 400 costumed party crashers sometimes crazy follows you.
Our Take: Surprisingly, we had some fun and a few laughs with 2010’s film. And with the entire crew coming back for the sequel, all we’re asking for is that same fun and laughs. Based on the trailer, it looks like that’s exactly what we’re going to get.

JULY 19

Red 2

Director: Dean Parisot
Stars: Bruce Willis, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich
Synopsis: Retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device.
Our Take: The 2010 film was a lot of fun and it will be cool to see all those amazing (old) actors back on screen again, kicking all sorts of butt.

R.I.P.D

Director: Robert Schwentke
Stars: Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon
Synopsis: A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him.
Our Take: If we had to choose one big-budget film that we dread seeing, this might be it. While it has a solid group of actors involved, it just looks like a poor man’s Men in Black.

Turbo

Director: David Soren
Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Maya Rudolph, Paul Giamatti
Synopsis: A freak accident might just help an everyday garden snail achieve his biggest dream: winning the Indy 500.
Our Take: DreamWorks Animation has a pretty solid track record with the likes of Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. While their latest doesn’t necessarily look to be as good as any of those, it still looks to be pretty fun and entertaining.

The Conjuring

Director: James Wan
Stars: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor, Ron Livingston
Synopsis: Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
Our Take: After seeing all the trailers and TV spots, it’s pretty safe to say that this haunted house film could actually be scary. We’re big fans of James Wan’s films (Saw and Insidious) and can’t wait to see what he has in-store in his latest.

Only God Forgives

Director: Nicolas Winding Refn
Stars: Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas
Synopsis: Julian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother’s recent death.
Our Take: After teaming up for 2011’s Drive, Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn are back with another visually-spectacular, brutally violent film. If this is anywhere near as good as their last effort, we’ll be very happy.

JULY 26

The Wolverine

Director: James Mangold
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen
Synopsis: Wolverine makes a voyage to modern-day Japan, where he encounters an enemy from his past that will impact on his future.
Our Take: To say 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a bad film is an understatement; it was a terrible film. But with director James Mangold (who unfortunately took over for the departed Darren Aronofsky) and Hugh Jackman giving the character a fresh start, this actually looks pretty good.

Blue Jasmine

Director: Woody Allen
Stars: Cate Blanchett, Peter Sarsgaard, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins
Synopsis: A life crisis causes a woman to head to San Francisco, where she reconnects with her sister.
Our Take: Woody Allen’s films can be either hit-or-miss, and based on the trailers, it’s still up in the air where this one will end up. But it does appear Cate Blanchett will be giving one pretty solid performance.

Box Office Report: Monsters U. stays at No. 1; The Heat has solid debut

0

Don’t mess with the monsters of Monsters University.

After a huge debut last weekend, Walt Disney and Pixar’s latest remained at No. 1 by grossing $46.1 million for an impressive $171 through 10 days. Monsters University, which opened with $82 million, is on pace to easily surpass 2001’s Monsters Inc. ($289 million).

The R-rated buddy-cop comedy The Heat opened up big for 20th Century Fox with $40 million to come in second, making it the largest debuts for both Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. The Paul Feig-directed film is a lot of fun with great performances and chemistry from McCarthy and Bullock.

Coming in third was Paramount’s World War Z with the Brad Pitt-starring zombie film grossing $29.8 million to bring its total number to $123.7 to date. After its $66 million opening last weekend, a sequel has already been planned.

Roland Emmerich’s White House Down debuted in fourth with just $25.7 million, making it Sony’s second dud of the summer after After Earth. The similarly themed Olympus Has Fallen opened to $30.3 million earlier this year and that could’ve had some effect on White House Down‘s numbers. White House Down is a decent summer action film with fun moments and good performances from Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx.

Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel rounded out the top five by bringing in another $20.8 million to give the Superman reboot and total gross of $248.6 million so far, well above 2006’s Superman Returns ($200 million) and 2005’s Batman reboot Batman Begins ($205 million).

It will be hard for Monsters University to make it three straight weeks at the top as new releases for the July 4th holiday week include The Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2, both of which should have pretty solid weeks.

Movie Trailer: Escape Plan looks like a lot of fun

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are back.

After getting the first poster for the duo’s Escape Plan nearly two weeks, we recently got the first trailer for their film about a structural-security officer who is incarcerated in a prison he designed and has to escape to find the person who framed him. Escape Plan looks like a whole heck of a lot of fun, and it looks like something Stallone and Schwarzenegger could’ve done back in their action-day primes.

Escape Plan (which was originally called the much better The Tomb) is directed by Mikael Hafstrom, who is known for 1408, and features a cast that also includes Jim Caviezel, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, 50 Cent and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Escape Plan opens on October 8.

Movie Trailer: The Conjuring could actually be scary

Prepare to be scared by The Conjuring.

We recently got the newest trailer for the haunted house film, the latest from Saw and Insidious director James Wan. And it’s safe to say that that The Conjuring could actually be scary; I know the trailer had my heart racing and gave me goosebumps (but part of that may have been due to the interview footage with the actual family spread throughout).

The Conjuring stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston and is definitely horror fans should keep an eye out for later this summer.

The Conjuring scares the crap out of us on July 19.

Movie Review: White House Down brings the Summer action

Director: Roland Emmerich
Writers: James Vanderbilt
Stars: Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, James Woods

Synopsis: While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman springs into action to save his child and protect the president from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.

[/info]

DIRECTION
White House Down is pretty much everything you’d expect from a Roland Emmerich film. It has tons of action, explosions, crazy-ridiculous plots but yet it somehow a lot of fun still. The overall premise of taking over the White House is absurd to begin with but with the direction here it’s as plausible as it’s going to get. The execution of the White House being taken over is still overdone but executed much better than Olympus Has Fallen, which is the same premise from earlier in 2013. While the mere amounts of people that are in that building everyday somehow vanished leaving just pathetic guards to shoot down, it’s about as good as you’re going to get. It’s far from perfect and there’s so many questions to be answered but the execution is enough for you to get the basic sense that you can enjoy the take over still. The overall feeling of this movie is somewhat of The Rock but with Channing Tatum running around non-shirtless, which will disappoint half the movie goers who are probably in it for that cause. Speaking of Tatum, what’s also amazing is his super power ability to run away from every bullet shot at him, which is interesting. The visuals in the film aren’t the greatest I’ve seen from Emmerich but again they are better than Olympus Has Fallen and the explosions used here are much more realistic, a term I use very loosely. Emmerich gets good performances out of his actors and it has a nice touch of charm. The movie doesn’t take itself very serious all the time and has lots of comedic elements which are sometimes just really cheesy but also it’s what gives this film a little pizzazz. Part of that is the use of secret (probably not real) White House rooms and tunnels which gives the heroes options to win the day. The White House history used is fun and ridiculous which is what is expected here. The fight sequences are great and you can have fun with them too but they are many which dilutes the third act of the film and makes it feel extremely long. The music for 2/3 of the film is forgettable but Emmerich does make use of it better it the last act. Overall, the movie is fun and has tons of action which is what you’d expect and want from a Summer popcorn film, but it lacks in realism and gets lengthy which brings it down. It’s not Emmerich’s best by any means but far from his worst too.

SCRIPT
Well I don’t know where to begin with the script. The overall premise is absurd on a level I can barely describe but like I said it gets as close as it can. The bad guys have taken over for reasons that can’t be explained without spoilers but the reasoning’s are much more reasonable here and makes a lot of sense as to why they are motivated for doing what they do. That part of the script is actually written well and makes for a descent premise. The dialogue is funny and charming at times, but also gets a little cheesy in some parts as well. But that’s all surface level which makes me ask; what’s really going on here? Channing Tatum’s character is one that is a father striving for love from a daughter who’s been mostly non-existent in his life. He’s working hard and interviewing for a job as a secret service agent when the White House actually goes down and separated from his daughter he meets the President (Jamie Foxx) who is now tasked with saving him while trying to get to his daughter at the same time. It’s an interesting dilemma that was explored mostly well and one that is redeeming and heart warming at the same time. Speaking of his daugher, she’s a central character which adds charm but isn’t pulled off very well. Everything she does is mostly unrealistic and comes across cheesy. The story arc could of been left out but forces certain characters to make decisions about her which makes her a driving force for the movie. Ultimately, she doesn’t belong which is both good and bad. Foxx, who’s life as President has been challenging, wants to earn his right to be called a hero and is probably the first kick-ass President we’ve seen in film. The twists and turns that come with this film are many and not really surprising given how Emmerich explores them but it’s enough to have fun with even though it’s predictable. Another main credit to this film is the level of depth some of these characters go which is unexpected for a Summer action movie. Of course, Tatum’s character is explored more and in the middle of all that we see his main motivtions as I talked about but we also see the same thing with main villain’s character (which I can’t reveal without spoilers) as well as some of the main henchmen as well. The bad guys have back-story’s that could of been left out but that extra five minutes of getting to know them adds to the development overall. It’s not 100% original but it’s unique enough and executed well with depth I didn’t expect giving this grade much higher than I anticipated.

PERFORMANCES
Tatum is pretty good in this role and adds a lot of humor and charm to the film which made it so much more fun than predecessor’s of this theme and premise. He doesn’t take himself entirely too serious which I like in a movie like this and he’s also serious when he needs to be. Jamie Foxx doesn’t quite have the Presidential appeal but his swagger is right for a 20th Century President of the good ole US of A so it’s not terrible. He adds character to his …well character and the morals he exemplifies his what’s most important. Jason Clarke is amazing in this role and he’s an actor that is getting better and better each time he’s on screen. His character isn’t explored enough but when he’s on screen you know it and he brings it. He has enough skill to pull of a fun bad guy and bring life to the fight sequences. He’s one of the better parts of the whole movie. James Woods has an extremely interesting character and he pulls it off but it’s nothing special. The same can be said for Richard Jenkins and Maggie Gyllenhaal as well. The supporting cast takes themselves very serious which is what is needed for characters in this situation, however it doesn’t come off natural and they seem forced. Foxx, Tatum and Clarke stand out here the most and do a descent job; outside of that everyone else is forgettable.

SCORE
Harald Kloser and Thomas Wanker tag teammed this score which is mostly non-memorable. It doesn’t stand out in anyway for most of the movie. The third act of the film gets much better and the action sequences are better for it. While the score doesn’t need to stand out in preparation set pieces, it can still add to the movie overall which it really doesn’t. The one thing Olympus Has Fallen has over White House Down is easily the score.

Opening This Weekend: White House Down takes on The Heat

This weekend will come down to White House Down and The Heat as to who takes home the prize at the Box Office. And to be quite honest, it may not be either of them as World Way Z and Monsters University will probably continue their run at the top. The Heat does look kind of funny and could get a lot of couple into the theater which most likely has the better chance out of the newcomers this weekend.

Anyway, here are the movie opening this weekend:

Movie News: Transformers 4 reveals yet another vehicle

So, I’m a little biased and most likely by this point on my own as well, but I’m excited for this and all the news that is coming out about it. Michael Bay has, again, revealed another vehicle from Transformers 4. This time we get a Freightliner truck that will most likely be Ultra Magnus or Motormaster. Here’s what Bay had to say about it:

The adventure continues to transform with a very different offering from Daimler Trucks North America. The imposing 2014 Argosy cab-over truck by Freightliner.

While we don’t know exactly what the plot will be, Bay did say that this movie will be a “chase from Hell”, whatever that means. If it’s anything like the highway chase from Transformers: Dark of the Moon (my favorite scene from that film), consider me even more excited. Anyway, meet our newest member of the Transformers Universe.

Transformers 4 New Truck

Transformers 4 stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz , Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing and T.J. Miller. It’s now filming and set to open on June 27, 2014.

Movie News: New characters pics from the Aronofsky biblical film Noah

We have new images from Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming biblical film, Noah, which will star Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connely, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. This is some of the first promo images we’ve seen from the film, which opens next March, and it doesn’t give much other than the aesthetic we will most likely walk in to. The pictures we’re released by The Film Stage and I love the tone we get with these images. Aronofsky is a great director and I look forward to seeing what he does with this story.

Of course, the interesting issue here is going to be Aronofsky spin on the story and how closely it resembles the one from the Bible. My guess is that it will be a little bit different which will set off some people depending on how serious they take the film. Look for this film to dive strongly into the characters though and the story I’m hoping will turn out epic. If you’re not familiar with Aronofsky, you need to be and if you like this story, I think you’ll end up loving what he does with it, given Aronofsky’s awesome resume. Consider me very excited.

Noah is set to open March 28, 2014. Check out the images below!

Movie News: Captain Planet coming to the big screen

Well with some exciting news, reports are coming in that Sony is in final negotiations to pick up the rights to the 1990’s series Captain Planet and plans to bring it to the big screen. The movie will be produced by Mark Gordon, Don Murphy and Susan Montford. In case you missed out in the early 90’s, Captain Planet revolves around five teens around the world that are given powers by Gaia, the Earth spirit, in order to protect the plant from devastation. When their powers are not enough, the teens get together to summon the awesome-themed superhero Captain Planet. The Captain and the Planeteers fought villains such as Dr. Blight, Verminous Skumm, Duke Nukem and Looten Plunder.

As far as our producers go, Gordon is well known for producing movies such as Speed, Saving Private Ryan, 2012 and many others as well. He is also the executive producer behind shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, and the upcoming Ray Donovan. Murphy, one of the producers behind The Transformers mega-franchise, and Montford are in production on Vampire Academy, the adaptation of the YA novel by Richelle Mead being directed by Mark Waters.

This franchise has had a few attempts in the past to garner some live-action fun but it never went anywhere. As for kids who grew up in the 90’s watching this show, I think it’ll depend on how the movie is executed to bring back those fans. The show was kind of cheesy and didn’t have the super villians we’ve seen in other films and cartoons such as Spider-Man or Batman. I’m half on board for this but we’ll see what happens.

What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!

Movie News: 50 Shades of Grey gets a release date

I’m not even sure why we’re following this movie but for some reason we are (because we like movies) and we now have news that 50 Shades of Grey has a release date. As you may know, we recently learned that Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing and now we have learned that it will be released on August 1, 2014.

What’s interesting about that choice is that it’s the same date as Guardians of the Galaxy which means that every guy and girl will be in separate theaters that weekend. The casting process should be pretty interesting and I’m sure will get a lot of buzz. While I’m more interesting in how this won’t end up a soft-core porn movie, the casting will also be interesting. And how comfortable will they be with the role? Either way, I’m mostly excited to see how this plays out and if people will actually go see it with a bunch of other strangers in theaters. Well at least I know I will have a double feature date next August.

Here is the official press release:

The global release of Fifty Shades of Grey will start in North America on Friday, August 1st, 2014 with opening dates around the world to be announced. The Focus Features domestic theatrical release will be in theaters nationwide. Universal Pictures International is releasing the movie in the rest of the world.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the highly anticipated film adaptation of E L James’ #1 bestselling book. Fifty Shades of Grey has been adapted into a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing the movie version alongside Ms. James.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features acquired the rights to the three books in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy in March 2012. Focus Features will market and distribute the first film in partnership with Universal. Fifty Shades of Grey has become a global phenomenon and the trilogy has been translated in over 50 languages worldwide since its release. To date, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest-selling book series ever.

Fifty Shades of Grey (first published in 2011) follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, Fifty Shades Darker (2011) and Fifty Shades Freed (2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship. Movie Trailer: Adore is the dumbest thing I’ve seen all year

0

For the record, the trailer for Adore is the dumbest thing I’ve seen all year so far. I guess if you’re into weird mom-swapping sex fantasies then you’ll be on board. Naomi Watts and Robin Wright star in this and I kind of feel bad for them. The only thing appealing on any level at all is the fact that it’s written by Christopher Hampton who wrote Atonement and Dangerous Liaisons. It’s not enough for me to care but for those of you that might, here’s the trailer.

Movie News: Vin Diesel to meet with Marvel

Well Vin Diesel has been having himself quite the year so far. First, his Fast & Furious 6 film did amazingly well at the box office and was one of my favorite films of the year so far. In fact, the last we heard from Diesel was when he announced that they’ll be coming back for a seventh film in that franchise.

Well now Vin Diesel, via his Facebook page, dropped what could be some major developments between him and Marvel Studios. Here’s his little update for us:

P.s. Marvel has requested a meeting… no idea what for… haha, you probably know better than me…

So what the heck does that mean? Marvel has been doing a lot lately with the announcements of all their future projects. And we know that The Avengers project will have at least three phases which will leave room for plenty of characters to be introduced at some point. I don’t know about you but I see Diesel playing some sort of bad guy in that Universe. Phase Two is well into production right now so most likely we’ll see Diesel somewhere in Phase Three of this crazy awesome mess. Again, we’re assuming that this meeting goes well and something comes out of it.

A lot of people don’t care for Diesel as an actor but I particularly like him and if he’s given the right role he could be great for this environment. I mean, we did see him fly already…

Movie News: A sequel to This is the End?

So, if you got a chance to see This is the End, then you’ll know that a sequel doesn’t quite make a whole lot of sense. Without giving spoilers away, the way it ended was great and pretty funny if you ask me. That being said, it’s being reported that Evan Goldberg is saying that there is a very meta-concept in the works for a sequel where the movie will take place at the premiere of the movie This is the End. Here are the words from Goldberg himself:

If you ask me, I’d say there’s a good chance of sequel. If you ask Seth [Rogen], he’d say no. So, we’ll see. The guys are up for it but we lucked out that they were all available. I honestly don’t know if we could get the guys together. We actually talked about doing a sequel where it starts at the premiere of This is the End. Seth’s a cokehead in this version, Michael Cera is a calm dude with a boyfriend, Rihanna and The Backstreet Boys are back. We have a lot of ideas: a heaven and hell, for example, and a garden of Eden version where Danny [McBride] is Adam.

I’m not the biggest fan of meta but when it’s done right it could be really good and in this environment of making fun of themselves it actually makes sense. I like the idea of these guys playing exxagerrated versions of themselves and it did okay at the box office so I’m guessing other people did too. The film has doubled it’s budget so far and hasn’t hit most of the international markets yet so this will end up being a pretty big success for them. Assuming they can work out their schedules, this will most likely end up happening. And honestly, I’d like to see more of McBride is this kind of role. He was amazing and was one of the better parts of This is the End so seeing him as Adam in the Garden of Eden would be interesting to say the least.

What are your thoughts? Is this a good idea?

Movie Trailer: Mark Ruffalo deals with sex addiction in Thanks for Sharing

0

We got a new trailer for Stuart Blumberg’s new film, Thanks for Sharing, which stars Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Josh Gad and Patraick Fugit.

The film deals with sex addiction and how society revolves around selling sex making it very hard for some people who deal with it on a constant basis. It’s an interesting topic with a great cast and it looks pretty good.

Check out the trailer and let us know your thoughts.

Movie News: Bill Pullman & Jeff Goldblum back for Independence Day 2, Will Smith will not

Over the weekend on our InSession Film Podcast, we discussed Independence Day 2 and why director Roland Emmerich said that Will Smith is “too expensive” for this project. I’m not sure about you, but that sounds a little ridiculous to me. I know Sony is still reaping its losses from After Earth, but it’s Will Smith. While Emmerich says he will not be back, I think over time we may see that change.

Well it’s now been announced that Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will be back for ID 2. Emmerich has confirmed that both actors are coming back with Pullman reprising his role as now ex-President Whitmore and Goldblum as the computer genius David Levinson.

Both of these actors were amazing in the first film which makes this news exciting and a good choice on Emmerich’s part. I think for this sequel, which will not be 20 years later, Will Smith will need to be a part for people to get completely on board with it. We still have a long way to go on this and there are plenty of youthful actors that could step in but Smith has the star power and the character that people will want to see.

Independence Day 2 is slated for release on July 3, 2015.

What are your thoughts?

Movie News: Philip Seymour Hoffman joins Hardy, Rapace, and Oldman in Child 44

If you’re not on the Philip Seymour Hoffman bandwagon by now you need to. His work and resume has been incredible and he’s one of the best actors in Hollywood. He’s one of those actors that will stand out in a movie even if he doesn’t a big role in the film. Despite some personal addictions and rehab, he’s been able to keep pulling of some amazing performances. If you didn’t see his incredible performance in The Master last year as Lancaster Dodd, you’re missing out as it was one of his better performances. Well admist the rehab, his career seems to still be on the upward and it looks like he’s been cast in Daniel Espinosa’s upcoming film, Child 44.

The film also stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Paddy Considine and Joel Kinnaman which is a great cast to be a part of. The story will focus on Hardy’s character as a Russian cop who is investigating a child-killer in the 1950’s Soviet Union. In the middle of all that, Stalin’s regime is insisting that the crimes don’t exist. So far this no word as to who Hoffman will be playing but he does pull of a “bad guy” well should he be cast as the murderer.

I’m not 100% sold on Espinosa yet but the story is a little intriguing and the cast will make me want to see this film. Hardy and Oldman are two of my favorite actors in Hollywood and you add in a name like Hoffman who’s an amazing performer and I’m going to need to see how this plays out.
