He’s back baby! Not just Sung Kang’s beloved Han, but director Justin Lin, arguably The Fast Saga’s greatest director and overall savior, returns for F9 this weekend. Lin’s eye for action set pieces gave this franchise a new sense of self-awareness it sorely needed, and those attributes are also found in his other films; even Star Trek Beyond gave that rebooted franchise a kinetic energy while simultaneously tethering itself back to classic Star Trek, more-so than J.J. Abrams’s films. With F9, the lunacy seems to be extending beyond our atmospheric reach, and isn’t that exactly what we’ve been waiting for? If any Fast Saga director can pull that off, it is Justin Lin.
