This week on the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by Wicker coming to theaters, we discuss our Top 5 unusual romances in movies! Plus, a discussion the box office weekend for Wildwood and Clayface, and we catch up on a few 2026 movies that we had missed earlier in the year.
– Box Office (4:56)
We begin the show this week by briefly discuss the weekend’s box office because it had some disappointing low’s and some fun high’s. The numbers for Wildwood are disheartening, however, we are hoping that its good word of mouth and behind-the-scenes marketing will give it more of a run in the following weeks. On the flipside, You Can See Everything did even *better* in its second weekend and continues to be a really fun story.
– 2026 Catch-Up (20:08)
We also had some 2026 catch-up that we wanted to get into, so JD offers up his thoughts on Whalefall, Iron Boy and Musk while Megan discusses the horror film Other Mommy. While we were mixed on most of these, be sure to keep an eye on Iron Boy as it has a great chance to be a player this awards season. Good movie that sticks the landing well.
– Top 5 Unusual Romances (1:06:44)
This was a really fun list to tackle as there are a ton of fun goofball romances in film. You could argue that most romances are some form of weird as there would be no drama if it was just two normal people who connected immediately (although Linklater has something to say about that). But we wanted to dive into the most unusual and talk about the uncanny and surreal. Which made for a fun conversation. With that said, what did you think of our lists?
