It’s one thing to think about it being halfway through the year already, it’s another to think about it feeling like an actual movie year thus far. While we are still reeling from the aftermath that was 2020, this year has finally given us a combination of what films were frustratingly delayed, and what the year potentially had in store for us regardless. From the rejuvenation of the blockbuster, to the critical darlings from Sundance, 2021 is not only shaping up to be a decent year, but one that is surprisingly less cumbersome than many of us predicted. We hope this sense of balance continues, but it is still early, and the second half of the year still has the potential to drown all film critics.
But until that inevitable drowning, let’s celebrate the first half of the year. What is your favorite film of 2021 so far? We are only considering films that have already been officially released, either in limited or wide.
