Biopics are often notorious for a couple of things – Wikipedia-style storytelling, and excessive amounts of makeup. The results are sometimes cringeworthy (cough…J. Edgar…cough), but in the cases that aren’t, we cannot deny the artistry involved. In fact in most cases, the work of the makeup artist is always rightfully applauded. The new Jessica Chastain vehicle The Eyes of Tammy Faye inspired us to look at biopics that allowed the makeup artists to do their very best work. Some of their work is quite subtle, others are quite grand, but are nonetheless authentic and convincing.
