This week on the InSession Film Podcast, Mike Denniston from Trilogy In Theory joins us to discuss The Father and our Top 5 most anticipated movies of 2021!

As you could assume, after a long, but thorough celebration of film in 2020 last week, this week’s show marks the first of our 2021 campaign. While Hollywood, and the country at large, is still figuring out the pandemic, we are hoping for great things this year in cinema. There are some uncertainties that remain, but it seems as if this year will have more to offer in terms of broader entertainment, even if it goes to streaming services instead of theaters. We, of course, look forward to the smaller VOD releases as well, but if we’re being optimistic, 2021 could have slightly more variance to it compared to last year. And that has us excited for what the year could look like overall (in terms of film).

On that note, check out this week’s show and let us know what you think in the comment section. Thanks for listening and for supporting the InSession Film Podcast!

As you may have heard on Extra Film, Ryan and Jay recently started their Wachowski Sisters Movie Series, in which they have recently covered both The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded. Well, in order to unwind after the Awards Show, JD decided to revisit both of those films and wanted to offer up a few thoughts on them since he hasn’t seem then in 15+ years.

Top 5 Most Anticipated Movies of 2021 (1:21:37)
It’s a new year and that means there are a lot of new movies for us to look forward to this year. At least, we hope so, fingers crossed. We don’t know what 2021 has in store for us, but again, if we are being optimistic, it could end up being a really solid year for movies. It could also end up being a bit of a cluster since so many moved from last year to this year, so it’ll be interesting to see what shifts in mainstream entertainment, or perhaps we are simply gifted with more this year. As of now though, No Time to Die, Black Widow, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Eternals, Morbius, Dune, In the Heights, West Side Story, A Quiet Place: Part II, Top Gun: Maverick, Candyman, Coming 2 America, F9, and a few others are expected to be released after moving from last year. Additionally, 2021 is set to see Godzilla vs Kong, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Untitled Spider-Man Sequel, Mission: Impossible 7, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, The Suicide Squad, Space Jam 2, The Matrix 4, and maybe even Sherlock Holmes 3. And that’s just the bigger stuff. Let alone all of the awards players and indie films that have moved and are interacting with original 2021 content. Hopefully this just means we are getting gifted with great content this year, which could make for a rich year for film, even if a bit convoluted. That said, what would be your top 5?
