This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we review Questlove’s directorial debut documentary Summer of Soul and we discuss our Top 5 movies of 2021 so far! Plus, JD gives a few more thoughts on F9 and the Amazon sci-fi original The Tomorrow War.

This is one of our favorite shows we get to do each year. Perhaps some of these films will be missing from our year-end list, but it’s always fun to see what movies stand out at the mid-point of the year. At the beginning of the year, the industry was still reeling from the effects of COVID-19, but things are starting to normalize a little bit, which has made for an interesting year so far. Some of the best films of 2021 so far are documentaries, with some claiming that Summer of Soul is the best one we’ve seen yet. So, it was great getting to talk about it and what makes it so unique.

On that note, check out this week’s show and let us know what you think in the comment section. Thanks for listening and for supporting the InSession Film Podcast!

For our break segment, as mentioned above, JD offers up a few more thoughts on F9 after hearing the discussion on last week’s show. And he also talks briefly about the Amazon original sci-fi film The Tomorrow War.

Top 5 Movies of 2021 (So Far) (1:21:20)
It’s hard to believe, but here we are at the midway point of the year. It’s been an odd year as things begin to normalize more than last year, so it may not be the deepest year for film, but its had its fair share of gems. A few of them may even end up as contenders at the end of the year during our Awards Show. So, it was a lot of fun, and a bit challenging, figuring out our lists and where we stand at this point in the film year. That said, what would be your top 5?
