This week on the InSession Film Podcast, Brendan returns as we celebrate 700 episodes of the InSession Film Podcast! Inspired by the success of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we took the top 50 highest grossing movies of the ISF era (2013-now) and ranked the best 10! What did you think of our final ranking?
– Ranking Discussion Begins (6:30)
We begin the show this week by diving straight into our consensus ranking. We’ve never done one with three hosts before, and that certainly added a fascinating dynamic, especially near the end of the conversation. It also gave us some early surprises as we talked about Frozen and Frozen 2, for example. Another fun quirk that came as a result of Brendan’s new found fatherhood, was his deepened love for Incredibles 2, a film we’ve always championed on the show. So, there were some interesting turns here that made for a fun discussion. And yet, despite our three-headed monster, the films up at the top were actually quite easy to figure out.
– Ranking Discussion Continues (1:10:05)
As our ranking continued, where things got really complicated was with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As is the case with everyone, our thoughts on these movies are wide ranging. Each of us had two different films in our top two for the MCU, even in a limited capacity where we are considering just the top 50 highest grossing movies over the last 12 years. Which is to say, no agrees on what the best movies are within Marvel’s canon and it was no different here. Certainly made for a fun discussion. With that said, what did you think of of our final list?
