We open the show this week by having some friendly banter, talking about the World Cup and how the fandoms uniting actually gives credence to Disclosure Day. It might be fantasy, but the way people from all different backgrounds have come together to celebrate has vehemently demonstrated what the world could look like without politics and it’s been nothing short of remarkable.
– Superhero State of the Union (15:59)
It’s time for another discussion on the current state of the superhero movie. Last year gave us some decent films, but none of them played particularly well at the box office. Supergirl, unfortunately, looks like it’s going to perform poorly. You do have to wonder about the potential shifting tides of the landscape with The Odyssey and Dune stealing IMAX from the MCU, along with movies like Obsession and Backroom dominating the box office, if audiences are simply caring less and less about superhero movies.
– Top 5 Criterion Box Sets (1:12:59)
Inspired by the upcoming release of the brand new Stanley Kubrick box set, we wanted to discuss the Criterion Collection box sets that we would like to see in the future. Criterion has an insane collection (in turns out) that features many of the best films of all-time, but weirdly there are gaps in the box sets that could be remedied. This was a really fun conversation and hopefully Criterion gives us these as we’re more than willing to spend the money. With that said, what did you think of of our lists?
