We open the show this week with JD’s thoughts on Andy Serkis’ new film Animal Farm. This is a film that Serkis has been wanting to make forever, but you have to wonder how it got approved given some of the additions he made. To be fair, it’s a fine adaptation overall, even with its modernized changes. It mostly comes down to how Animal Farm doesn’t trust its audience and accidentally becoming even bleaker in the end.
– Critics vs Audiences (22:57)
The release of Michael over the weekend sparked some of the most intense, yet obtuse, film discourse we’ve seen this year as audiences lined up to throw jabs at critics over its Rotten Tomatoes score. Of course, we had to offer up our thoughts on the situation given our stance as critics and how we approach criticism.

This is such a fascinating topic as it includes hundreds of great films with unforgettable costumes. You could go in any number of directions with your list and you wouldn’t be wrong. Maybe you cant to focus on the great period pieces we’ve seen over the decades? Or how about the stunning costumes of fantasy and sci-fi? Or you could emphasize musicals and the way costumes are often pivotal to their aesthetic objectives. No matte which way you go, there are tons of great costume movies, and we had a great time with this one. With that said, what would be your Top 5 costume movies?
