This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we dive into some Gore Verbinski as we rank his ten feature films, from Mouse Hunt all the way to A Cure For Wellness! Not all of his films work, but his ambitious vision has always been something we’ve admired.
– Super Bowl / Halftime Show / SB Trailers (2:02)
After some opening banter, we start the show by discussing this year’s Super Bowl and halftime show, which featured one of the best in recent years if you ask us. We also got some Super Bowl trailers, including a surprise teaser for the new Cliff Booth movie from David Fincher. It very much looks like a fusion of Tarantino and Fincher, and it has us quite intrigued.
– Evil Dead Trilogy (32:30)
After our Sam Raimi draft last week, and revisiting his iconic Evil Dead movies in preparation for that conversation, we wanted to devote an entire segment to them. Evil Dead II is pretty much a remake of its predecessor, but it’s as masterful of a horror-comedy as you can get. The first Evil Dead is astounding given the budget it was operating under, and Army of Darkness is as silly as it gets.
– Gore Verbinski Ranking (1:05:19)
Once again, this is a consensus ranking between both JD and Brendan, which is the fun of this exercise as we have to put our heads together and debate where each film lands. However, in this case, it wasn’t nearly as challenging as Gore Verbinski is just one of our guys. We love the flawed ambition of his movies, and Pirates of the Caribbean is simply one of the best trilogies of the last thirty years. We had a lot of fun with this conversation. That said, what did you think of our ranking?
