2025 was an interesting year for film. It took awhile to get going, but once the fall season arrived, it was one gem after another. Ironically, though, the year gave us some of its very best movies in the first half with Sinners, 28 Years Later, One Battle After Another and Sorry, Baby. However, at least for us, most of the year’s great depth came during the last few months of 2025. With the likes of Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, It Was Just An Accident, No Other Choice, Train Dreams, The Secret Agent, and so many more, it was an avalanche of awesome cinema. 2025 was also a great bounce back for mainstream movies. Warner Bros. and Disney both crushed it at the box office with A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Superman, Thunderbolts*, Sinners, Zootopia 2, Wicked: For Good and others. Where 2024 was dominated by experimental and innovative filmmaking, 2025 was well rounded with great indies and foreign films, and a better Hollywood buffet. It was a great year for movies and we had the best time talking about why it’s so robust.
