Roland Emmerich has made mostly disasters. Of course we mean that literally, as Emmerich has threatened to end the world with global warming, the Mayan calendar, aliens, a remake of a giant Japanese reptile, and this weekend it’ll be the moon itself. Unsurprisingly, Roland Emmerich still remains one of the top 20 highest-grossing directors of all time; is that because his films are the dictionary definition of ‘so bad it’s good’, or do people just love to watch the world burn? Welcome to Earth, indeed.
