Podcast: Top 3 Discoveries of 2014
This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we did something a little different than what we normally do for our Top 3 segment. We did this last year for 2013 and it was a lot of fun, so over the next few weeks we’re going to reflect on 2014 and this week we’re staring with our favorite movie discoveries. Each year brings us new actors, directors, composers or just films themselves that stand out impressively as something new to us. So, maybe they’re not new overall, but new to us, hence the discovery. Simple right?
That being said, what 2014 movie discoveries would make your list? Here are the one’s that made ours (Keep in mind we all have different criteria for our lists as well):
1) As It Is In Heaven – Josh Overbay
2) The Babadook – Jennifer Kent
3) Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) / John Michael McDonagh (Calvary)
1) Whiplash – Damien Chazelle
2) Patrick Cassidy’s score for Calvary
3) Interstellar – McKenzie Foy
2) The One I Love – Charlie McDowell
3) The Rover – Robert Pattinson
Honorable Mentions (Combined)
Kristen Stewart, Mica Levi’s score for Under the Skin, Jon Favreau (Chef), Patricia Arquette, Pawel Pawlikowski/Agata Trzebuchowska – Ida, Blue Ruin, Steven Knight – Locke, Predestination, Will Smith’s worth performance, Bill Hader – The Skeleton Twins , Ansel Elgort – The Fault in our Stars
Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists and if you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are a ton of other choices that could qualify depending on your experience with film and some more traditional newbies to the business. Either way, a lot of great discoveries this year. That being said, what would be your Top 3? Leave a comment in the comment section or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
