This week on Extra Film, Ryan and Jay begin their Steven Soderbergh Movie Series with sex, lies, and videotapes and then they discuss Parallel Mothers!
New year, new movie series as the boys move to someone they are very familiar with in the entertaining, electric Steven Soderbergh. Before making Ocean’s movies, he started his career making small indie dramas, and with sex, lies, and videotapes, he delivered a deeply complex about how people live their lives and their loneliness. Ryan and Jay really loved this one, and it was a great start to this series.
In the back half of the episode, the boys dive back into Parallel Mothers, the latest entry from the director of their last movie series, Pedro Almodovar. In another female-focused drama starring his muse Penelope Cruz, Almodovar delivers another solid, tender movie on motherhood, with a historical take to it that doesn’t always work but is very admirable.
