There’s so much to love about this film, but maybe most notably is its subversive approach given the material and the kind of tone you would expect. For a film that’s bubbling with politics, espionage and violence, you’d think there would be more overt tension. But its quiet, humanistic characteristics lead to one of the year’s best endings.
