This week on the InSession Film Podcast, Brendan is back to give us his thoughts on Project Hail Mary, Obsession, Backrooms, Toy Story 5 and more! We also discuss Digger‘s box office woes and the death of Warner Bros.
– Digger Box Office (4:03)
We begin the show this week by discussing Digger’s massive box office woes. The film may go on to be a major awards player, but as it stands currently, it is one of the biggest bombs of all-time. It is projected to lose around $250 million. On the flip side, while getting almost no attention in the discourse, Verity had an incredible weekend.
– Skydance (17:15)
Welp, it’s official. The death of Warner Bros. has finally arrived as Skydance has taken over and will be the name by which the large conglomerate will go by. There are many reasons to be skeptical around this deal. Even if people don’t lose jobs, how much pressure will they be under? What will Skydance do about quality control? At what point will politics come into play? Maybe it will work, but we have a lot of questions to ponder.
– 2026 Catch-Up (52:28)
With Brendan coming back for just the third time since going on leave, we thought it would be appropriate to get his thoughts on all the big movies he’s missed over the last several months. Of course, we couldn’t get into them all, but we had a great time discussing 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Obsession, Backrooms, Project Hail Mary, The End of Oak Street, Toy Story 5 and Coyote vs ACME. And as you might expect, he brings a few hot takes with him into the conversation. With that said, what do you think of Brendan’s takes on these films?
