This week on the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by the release of The Dog Stars this weekend, we did a Ridley Scott movie draft! JD also gives us his thoughts on The End of Oak Street and The Rivals of Amziah King.
– The End of Oak Street (9:13)
While Megan and Max were not very high on David Robert Mitchell’s latest, JD ended up having a very different take on the film. He didn’t see the ending as a cop out, but rather a provocative and mean-spirited twist that makes you look at its characters a little differently.
– The Rivals of Amziah King (40:38)
Next, JD gave his thoughts on Andrew Patterson’s new film The Rivals of Amziah King. While he disagreed on Oak Street, he had nothing but praise for Amziah King. It’s a film that shouldn’t work given how many genres it’s navigating, yet somehow it all comes together in a seamless way. All complimented by two of the best performances of the year with Matthew McConaughey and Angela LookingGlass.

Ridley Scott is a fascinating filmmaker. He begins his career with two of the best sci-fi movies ever made. Somehow made one of the most underrated Best Picture winners given the discourse around it. The late-stage of his career is riddled with polarizing movies. There is so much to love about Scott, and he’s made some incredible films, so where do you go when drafting his best work? Some of it is obvious, however after those first few, it could go in a number of direction. With that said, what did you think of our draft?
