To start off this week’s show, JD tells us the story of his recent rewatch of Jeff Nichol’s 2016 masterpiece Midnight Special. Long time listeners of the show will know that it’s one of his favorite films of the 2010s, and as a result it wasn’t too shocking to hear how this viewing affected him.
– Gladiator II and Captain America: Brave New World Trailers (12:52)
Given our love for Ridley Scott, we had to talk about the new trailer for Gladiator II and its epic potential. It looks really great, especially when you consider the turnaround time from Napoleon to something as bold as doing a sequel to a beloved Best Picture winner. We also talk about the new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, a film that could potentially swing the MCU’s favor back to being positive.
– Box Office / Horizon: Chapter 2 Pulled (30:14)
In this segment, we talk about the continuing momentum of the box office after Neon’s huge weekend with Longlegs. Say what you will about the film, but it was Neon’s biggest opening by far and things have shifted mightily since May. One disappointment, however, is that we will not seeing Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 hit theaters after all. At least for now. It appears they want to see how Chapter 1 fares on VOD before making a decision on Chapter 2.
– 2024 Catch-Up (50:59)
For our main segment this week, we wanted to talk about some films we’ve caught up with over the last few weeks and months that we haven’t had a chance to talk about yet. We, of course, can’t review everything, so we wanted to save some space to talk about those movies we’ve seen and where we land on them.
