This week on Extra Film, Ryan and Jay are joined by Mitchell Beaupre of Letterboxd.com to discuss 25th Hour as part of their Spike Lee Movie Series and they also review the 2021 Palme d’Or winner Titane!
After the dark satire Bamboozled, Spike Lee returned with what might be his most personal film about New York City. Following the attacks of 9/11, Lee encompassed the anxiety and uncertainty that followed the tragic events with a morality tale about a man’s last day before he is sent to prison. Through a stellar script collaboration and spectacle performances, 25th Hour is Lee’s 21st century masterpiece.
In the second review, Mitchell sticks around to review Titane with the Extra Film boys. Noted as the premier film of the year so far, Titane is the outrageous, tender return to the big screen for Director Julia Ducournau. Centered around a serial killer and a lonely firefighter, you won’t see another film like it this year, and sets the stage for a new master of cinema, as Ducournau gives us a heart pounding film that will leave you cringing and speechless. This is one of the best conversations of the year on Extra Film, so please give it a listen.
