To some, he is a filmmaking god. To others, he is a beautiful and pretentious bore. But to all, he is a complete mystery of a man. Aside from the films he has directed over the span of nearly 50 years (with one 20-year hiatus in between), Terrence Malick has rejected the notion of celebrity so heavily that he essentially became one anyway. Known for his privacy, we can only rely on two things when getting a sense of who Terrence Malick is; the words from those who have worked with him, and from the films he has made, which indicate a man of faith, cultural curiosity, and most of all, nature. His films, and their fluttery style, have their fair share of detractors, but this week’s poll (as we round out our Malick Movie Series) is not for them; like the subjects of his films, it’s for the culturally curious and open-minded.
