This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we discuss our Top 5 movies of the year so far! There’s been some great movies this year and we sift through out favorites at the mid-way point. JD also gives his thoughts on Obsession, Minions & Monsters and Pressure, while Megan dives into Couture and Girls Like GIrls.

We open the show by diving back into the world of Obsession after JD finally caught up with the film. There are a lot of good things, in particular Inde Navarrette’s sensational performance, but we do bring up some question marks surrounding the Nikki character and how the film portrays her.

Megan then gives us her thoughts on the Alice Winocour film Couture, starring a great Angelina Jolie. She also dives into the charming coming-of-age drama Girls Like Girls from first-time director Hayley Kiyoko.
– Minions & Monsters / Pressure (38:01)
Before we get to the Top 5, JD offers up his thoughts on the latest from Illumination in Minions & Monsters, one of the biggest surprises of the year so far. Especially as a cinephile, there is so much to love about the film. As for Pressure, well, it’s a movie about the weather.

It’s that time of the year already. We’re halfway through and we’ve seen some pretty good films to this point. It’s been a little slow-going at times, but 2026 has given us some great gems in the first half of the year. As always, we’re excited to dive int our favorites to this point and discuss why these films will linger on as we near the fall season. With that said, what did you think of of our lists?
