This week on the InSession Film Podcast, JD is joined by Joey Gentile to discuss the 98th Academy Awards! The ceremony itself was really great, there were a few surprises and overall lots to celebrate with Sinners and One Battle After Another combining for 10 Oscars on the night!

This week’s show is all about the Oscars. After some opening banter, we jump right in talking about the ceremony overall, Conan as a host and overall how much better of a production it was compared to the last few years. It wasn’t perfect, there were a few bumps, but on the whole a great Oscars and it featured some incredible winners.
– 2026 Oscars (58:13)
While there were some locked categories, there were quite a few that were up in the air, including Best Picture, which made the evening more tense than usual. Things turned even more exciting with surprises in Best Casting and Best Cinematography. It was a great year for movies and refreshing to see the winners deeply representative of that. Which is why the discourse that followed all the more baffling. We have to stop the sportsification of art. Yes, the Oscars is technically a competition, but it’s not sports. The manufacturing of rivalries is obtuse, and of course, we had to talk about that as well. That said, what did you think of the 2026 Oscars?
