This week on the InSession Film Podcast, with the 98th Academy Awards taking place this weekend, we talked about the top 5 things we want to see at this year’s Oscars! Whether it be the awards themselves, the ceremony or anything in-between, we discuss our hopes and what could make the Oscars memorable. We also delve into our Pixar Draft results from last week, and dive into the box office numbers for both Hoppers and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! As we do, there’s also some conversation around Pixar itself and the discourse around The Bride! and why Warner Bros.’ gamble was worth it.
– Hoppers Box Office / Pixar Talk (6:01)
We begin the show this week, after revealing the results of our Pixar Draft from last week, by discussing the great start at the box office for Hoppers. We want original Pixar films to do well, so regardless of how we feel about the film itself, we were thrilled to see its incredible opening. We then shift to Pixar as a whole, talking about their recent output and why it might not be as bad as its reputation suggests.
– The Bride! Box Office & Discourse (32:43)
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! may have disappointed at the box office, but we are thrilled that Warner Bros. was willing to give her $90 million for an ambitious project like that. In an age inundated with sequels, remakes, reboots and kinds of safe mediocrity, especially from the major studios, to get that kind of a budget for a Frankensten-Bride-1930s Chicago-Bonnie and Clyde-ghost story is nothing short of a miracle. Maybe that’s a hot take, who’s to say, but we’re glad it exists.
– 2026 Oscars Wishlist (47:02)
Instead of doing predictions, as you can hear on this week’s Chasing the Gold, we thought it would be fun to talk about the things we want to see at the Oscars this weekend. Whether it be about the awards themselves, the ceremony, the reaction to it all, and everything in-between, our Top 5 this week is all about what we hope to see take place at the 98th Academy Awards. This was a really fun and refreshing way to talk about the Oscars. That said, who do you hope to see this weekend?
