This week on the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by Scream 7 hitting theaters this weekend, we discuss our favorite horror movie kills! The horror genre is full of all kinds of death and carnage, featuring some of the most gnarly thrills that cinema has to offer, and we thought it would be fun to parse though the best sequences that define horror film.
– Olympics / Hockey / Miracle (0:59)
We begin the show this week with JD opening up about his childhood, how he fell in love with hockey and why this last weekend was incredible. Until it wasn’t. Team USA winning the Gold Medal game was a sports moment that turned JD into a 10-year-old kid again, but the aftermath immediately reverted back and we had to talk about it. We do, of course, bring movies into the conversation as art does play a role it all.
– Gore Verbinski / Pirates Trilogy (35:10)
Two weeks ago, we did a consensus Verbinski ranking and it was a ton of fun. Now that we’ve seen his new film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, we wanted to update our ranking to see where it places. We also revisited Verbinski’s incredible Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy over the last week, and boy do we have some passionate thoughts to share.
– Top 5 Horror Movie Kills (59:11)
Horror has been around since the beginning of cinema, and a significant amount of movie iconography is centered about horror movie kills. When you hear the topic, there are several iconic images that immediately come to mind. Let alone the vast amount of incredible kills we’ve seen in the genre over the decades. There are literally hundreds of great scenes to choose from for this list, so while challenging, it was a lot of fun trying to narrow it down to five.
