This week on Episode 701 of the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by the release of Tony this weekend and the late-great Anthony Bourdain, we thought it would be fun to dive into our Top 5 food movies! There’s perhaps a fine line between movies where food is a vital throughline and those with just a few delicious scenes that stand out. But regardless of your criteria, there are so many great food movies to consider and we had a great time talking about why these films move us. That said, here are our lists:
(Note: Please keep in mind that we each had different criteria for our selections)
JD
1) Ratatouille
2) Man Push Cart
3) Jeanne Dielman, 23 Commerce Quay, 1080 Brussels
4) First Cow
5) The Taste of Things
Megan
1) Ratatouille
2) First Cow
3) The Taste of Things
4) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5) Willy Wonka
Honorable Mentions (Combined)
Pig, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Marie Antoinette, Phantom Thread, Chef, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, The Menu, Raw, The Princess and the Fog, Like Water for Chocolate
Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists. If you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are obviously many more food movies that we didn’t have time to mention (or they’re blindspots for us), so if your list looks very different than ours, we totally get it. That being said, what would be your Top 5? Leave a comment in the comment section or email us at [email protected].
