This week on the InSession Film Podcast, we discuss our Top 30 movies of the 21st century so far! We’re a quarter of the way into the century and have seen thousands of movies over the last 25 years. These are the films that stand above the rest for us!

We begin the show this week with some housekeeping and announcements for the upcoming week. Given our schedules, it will be another crazy week content wise and we’ll have more bonus content and three reviews coming down the pipeline as we have a few movies to catch up on after missing them last week.
– Criteria and Process of Making Our Lists (4:11)
Given the heftiness of an exercise like this, we spend a fair amount of time talking about how we formulated our lists. We’ve talked about our Top 20 Movies of the Decade for the 2010s (on Episode 363), our Best of the Decade for the 2000s (on Episode 600) and most recently our Best of the Decade so far for the 2020s (on Episode 641). So we have somewhat of a baseline for our favorite movies of the 21st Century as a result of those exercises. However; our lists also change over time, so it’s not as easy as just looking at those lists and picking out of the Top 10. We had a lot to say about how we used those lists to formulate our lists, but also what’s changed and how emotion complimented (or even complicated) the math as we put them together.

With hundreds and hundreds of great films over the last 25 years, narrowing this down to a Top 30 was extremely challenging. But also a ton of fun. We had a great time, not just formulating our lists, but discussing the movies that made the cut and why they landed at the spots they did. There were some surprises, some inevitable crossovers and some picks that long time listeners would come to expect given our deep love for these movies.
