Will 2021 be better than 2020? Will life this year begin to resemble some form of normalcy again? More importantly, will our most anticipated films of 2021 even come out this year? Most, if not all, of these questions come with an uninspired “we’ll see”, but there’s one thing we have this year that we have didn’t exactly one year ago, and that’s hope. As we wrapped up the cinematic year that was 2020, we acknowledged that while still a very good year for film (if you knew what indies and documentaries to seek out), circumstances made it feel somewhat incomplete, yet there is hope that 2021 can be that missing piece. In some ways, our most anticipated films of last year simply shifted to this year, but even with the movie business landscape constantly evolving (for better and for worse), that doesn’t mean we don’t have much to look forward to in 2021. On the contrary, 2021 reeks of cinematic competition. Will it be too much competition that these movies will inadvertently phase each other out, or will it be enough to reinvigorate our love for the theater-going experience (once it is safe to do so, of course)?
