This week on the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by Spike Lee’s new film Highest 2 Lowest, we discuss our Top 10 Denzel Washington performances! We also get into Alan Tudyk’s recent comments on I, Robot and we have new performance that we going to champion this awards season.
– Alan Tudyk Comments (3:19)
We begin the show this week by talking about Alan Tudyk’s recent comments about how he was rejected from the I, Robot press tour because test audiences loved his performance more than Will Smith’s performance. Which is saddening to hear because both Tudyk and Smith are excellent in that movie, and the test audiences were correct that Tudyk gives the warmer performance. Smith’s cynicism is what makes him great in that film, so we’re not sure what the studios were expecting, and thus we had to talk about it.
– Good Boy & Indy / Quentin Tarantino (14:17)
In 2015 we saw the release of White God and one of the best performances of the last decade with Bodie the dog. No, seriously. He was so good that we championed him all awards season that year. It was never going to happen, obviously, but it’s 2025 and we aren’t going to let Indy have the same fate. Indy, of course, being the start of the new film Good Boy. We also talk a little Quentin Tarantino as he continues to struggle with finding his tenth and “final” film. But maybe he already has great 10 movies?

Denzel will go down as one of the best movie stars of his generation. A phenomenal talent with a remarkable range and an infectious personality. So we thought it would be fun to do another consensus ranking of his top 10 performances. As always, the top end was obvious, but the bottom five came with some debate and even a few surprises. Any time you get to talk Denzel Washington it’s a good day. With that said, what would be your Top 10 Denzel performances?
