One Battle After Another leads the 2026 crop of BAFTA nominees with 14 mentions, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners follows close behind with 13. But, I predict February 22nd will be a particularly good night for Hamnet. Why? BAFTA tends to “spread the wealth,” more so than the Oscars, and tends to favor films with a home court advantage. The Brittish Academy went big for Conclave last year; they could course correct and rubber-stamp One Battle’s frontrunner status. Or deliver some surprises and give Chloé Zhao’s drama a much-needed boost.
For U.S. viewers, BAFTA will air with a delay on E!. Although a VPN will allow you to watch live as the event takes place on Sunday, February 22. Emmy-winning Traitors host Alan Cumming will serve as MC. And Paddington Bear is among the presenters, reason alone to tune in.
For more BAFTA analysis, listen to the latest episode of Chasing the Gold, with special guest Doug Jamieson of Filmotomy and The Jam Report.
