List: Top 3 Best Shot Sci-Fi Films

This week on Episode 242 of the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by Blade Runner 2049, we discussed our Top 3 best shot sci-fi movies. If you’ve seen 2049, or even just the marketing for the film, the first thing you probably noticed was the beautiful imagery of the film. Cinematographer Roger Deakins is a master with the camera and he *should* win the Oscar this year for Best Cinematography, or at least we hope so anyway. Given the gorgeous imagery of both Blade Runner films, we thought it would be appropriate to talk about our favorite sci-fi movies that have the best cinematography. There are some great options for this list, and we hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did. On that note, what sports movie matches would make your list?

Here are the one’s that made ours:

**Please keep in mind that we each had different criteria for our selections**

JD

1) Close Encounters of the Third Kind
2) Stalker
3) Gravity

Brendan

1) Children of Men
2) Stalker
3) E.T.

Chris

1) Gravity
2) The Matrix
3) Blade Runner

Honorable Mentions (Combined)

Blade Runner 2049 (excluded per criteria), Arrival, Ex Machina, Under the Skin, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Metropolis, Brazil, Her, Solaris, The Martian, Moon, Interstellar, Alien, Mad Max: Fury Road, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Avatar, Tron: Legacy, The Fountain, Sunshine, Wall-E, Ghost in the Shell

Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists and if you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are many other movies we didn’t mention when it comes to sci-fi films that could make your list, depending on your own criteria. That being said, what would be your Top 3?
