Movie News: Spidey looks to stay with Sony for a long time

Late last night, according to Aint It Cool News, rumors surfaced that Sony may be looking to sell the Spider-Man franchise to the Marvel Universe, which would be pretty surprising.

Amy Pascal, who is the co-chair at Sony Pictures Entertainment said that she would “Never ever ever” sell the Spider-Man franchise. She went on to say that she feels the property is directly tied to her legacy at Sony and she’s excited for the new film to come out. If this is true, it doesn’t look like Spidey is leaving Sony any time soon.

While I have liked most of the Spider-Man films, I do think it would be awesome to see such an iconic character in the Marvel Universe, probably where it belongs too. Who wouldn’t want to see Spider-Man team up with Tony Stark and Iron Man as they take down the bad guys?

I understand why Sony doesn’t want to sell the property as it’s made them tons of that green stuff, but c’mon, let the character be where it belongs. That’s just my opinion though. What do you guys think?

  1. I think its been pretty much proven across the board that when a property is returned to Marvel, it always works out for the best. On that basis alone, and because I love Spidey so much, I’d like to see it happen. But it probably won’t.

The only Spiderman movie that I thought was worth anything was the first one by Sam Raimi. The rest of them, including the most recent one, were crap and didn’t come close to capturing what Spiderman is really about. I can only hope that Sony does sell it back to Marvel.

    • A lot of people say that Spiderman 2 is the best comic book movie of all time. I do like that one a lot too. The new one I liked too, not as much as Sam Raimi’s first one, but I do agree that if it went back to Marvel, it’d be way better.
