List: Top 3 Best Picture Winners
This week on Episode 263 of the InSession Film Podcast, inspired by the 90th Oscars the happened over the weekend, we discussed our top 3 Best Picture winners of all-time. This was no small task. With 89 films to sift through, (we recorded this before The Shape of Water became the 90th Best Picture winner) it was challenging to narrow it down to just three, especially since many of them are truly great films. Sure, not all Best Picture winners hold up or were deserving of their win, but that didn’t make this exercise any easier. On that note, what movies would make your list? Here are the one’s that made ours:
**Please keep in mind that we each had different criteria for our selections**
1) The Godfather
3) The Best Years of Our Lives
3) Midnight Cowboy
1) Gone With the Wind
Honorable Mentions (Combined)
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Annie Hall, On the Waterfront, Casablanca, All About Eve, No Country for Old Men, Schindler’s List, All Quiet on the Western Front, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, 12 Years A Slave, The Hurt Locker, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, Million Dollar Baby, Silence of the Lambs, Braveheart, Titanic, The Departed, Rebecca, The French Connection, The Deer Hunter, Shakespeare in Love, American Beauty, Birdman
Hopefully you guys enjoyed our lists and if you agree or disagree with us, let us know in the comment section below. There are obviously many other winners that we didn’t mention for one reason or another that could have made your list. That being said, what would be your Top 3?
