Movie News: Angry Birds crashing into theaters in 2016

You know that little video game where you shoot the birds and try to blow up the pigs? That little video game with no dialogue or plot? That little video game where you do the same thing for 100 different levels? Yeah, they’re turning that into a feature-length film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has secured to rights to make a 3D animated film about Angry Birds, the time-wasting video game that has been downloaded over 1.7 billion times. It will hit theaters on July 1, 2016.

John Cohen, producer of Despicable Me, and David Maisel, executive producer of Iron Man, have both signed on to produce.

Like a billion other people, I have wasted many minutes of my life playing Angry Birds. It’s a great little video game. But I don’t want to see it turned into a full-length film. It’s not the craziest thing Hollywood has ever done but it has to be up there.
